Adventures in Titusville, FL

January 26, 2008 - in Titusville, FL

The wind had died overnight so we woke to a calm morning, had our coffee and headed to the showers at about eight o’clock. We walked over to the Titusville Sailing Club and enjoyed a fundraising breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and hash browns with coffee.  We enjoyed talking with a couple who had purchased a condo in the area. They lived on board a sail boat with two children in the South Pacific for about eight years before moving to Hawaii and then recently to Titusville.  It is always interesting to talk with other boaters and learn of their experiences.

We came back to Surprise and contacted our friends who are in a condo in St. Cloud about 50 miles south of here. They are coming over here this afternoon and we will go out to dinner somewhere, and then spent the afternoon doing some chores around the boat.  Joe replaced a safety bridle around the anchor which had come off last time I pulled the anchor up. He also worked on an electrical adaptor which was on the boat when we purchased it. It is new and has never worked. I vacuumed and dusted and cleaned the windows. Joe worked on this computer and I read my novel while we waited for our friends.

Don and Jean Carl and their daughter Marie arrived later and we had a nice visit on the boat. We talked about our adventures on the water and then we went to Dixie Crossroads a local seafood restaurant. The place was very big, well managed, and the food was good. They immediately serve corn fritters with powdered sugar when guest sit down and we really enjoyed them.  This was our first encounter with a shellfish they call "Rock Shrimp". It has a hard shell similar to a lobster or crawfish.  The restaurant splits the shell so the meat can be easily removed. They were spicy and much like lobster in taste and texture.  We recommend.

January 27, 2008 – Titusville

We awoke to strong winds and grey skies and choose to stay one more day.  We worked on updating the bills and wrote the necessary checks, and also continued to plan future cruse days.  Sure enough, about noon the sun came out and the winds began to relax.  Too bad it took so long.  Too late to cruise to our next stop, so we utilized the time to wash clothes and linen, and then walked to a convenient small market for bread and milk.  We enjoyed a nice dinner onboard, watched a movie and retired early for a long travel day tomorrow.
