Adventures in Vero Beach, FL

January 29,30 & 31, 2008 At Vero Beach

Our dinner last night did not agree with either of us and we awoke not feeling quite right.  We had our coffee on board and then Pepper invited us over to visit on their boat, a beautiful 42' GB Classic.  We grabbed our coffee and went over to enjoy conversation on cruising the ICW, as Pepper and Geoff have wintered in Florida waters for the last several years.  We also enjoyed the breakfast pastry Pepper had prepared.  They are staying in Vero Beach for the season, and we hope to see and visit with them when we return from Key West later this month.

After our showers, we relocated to a mooring for a few days and then spent the afternoon reading, working on the computer and resting from Monday's cruise and evening meal. Joe started working on this months Skipjack article and encountered a bad case of writers block.  Each month he writes an article for the "Rockville Sail and Power Squadron" newsletter.  I guess it's guilt kicking in as we are cruising in such nice weather and most of the squadron's members are dealing with normal Maryland winter weather.  Anyway, his term as squadron commander is nearing it's end.  We hope to be home in March for the annual Change of Watch meeting.   We had as early light supper, watched a movie and got to bed early. Joe had trouble sleeping. I guess he was concerned about not being able to get the article written.

Wednesday Jan 30 after breakfast we had our showers. Joe was still having no luck writing so we decided to check out the bus system run by the Indian River Transit system. We rode to the first stop to a West Marine store and Joe purchased lights for the dinghy. We then had lunch and headed back to the bus and rode to the nearest mall to get a haircut, went to Staples and Target for a few items. This pretty much killed the day as it was almost five when we got back to the boat. We read for a while before grilling steaks for dinner.

Thursday, Jan 31

Got an early start.  Joe awoke early to complete his newsletter article.  Wow, finally.  We then caught the 8:45 bus to the beach for breakfast.  We ended up at a lovely little restaurant, the "Lemon Tree", recommended by the bus driver. Afterwards we walked the beach and then caught the bus to a grocery store for provisions and then headed back to the boat.   Joe checked the engine room in anticipation of cruising tomorrow.  We read for a while and decided to have supper at about 4:30 and then go get a shower.  On to Jupiter and then Delray Beach where we will meet up with Ted and Sheila for dinner.
