Boot Key Mooring Field to Key Largo (Thursday Cove Anchorage), Florida

Our overnight stay in Boot Key Harbor allowed us to unwind from the bouncy ride we had in Hawk Chanel yesterday. We awoke to clear skies and calm winds and quickly prepared to release the mooring for our cruise back into the protected waters of the ICW. We cruised through and out of the mooring field about 0730 and easily cleared the 26 foot clearance of Boot Key Bridge.

The pleasant warm day and gentler winds allowed an easy decision to bypass the Matecumbe Bight anchorage and head towards Key Largo.  I had anticipated stopping at Gilberts where we could enjoy an evening in their Tiki Bar listening to music.  On this pleasant Sunday afternoon when we arrived at the JewFish creek bridge area all of the dock space and anchorage space near Gilberts was taken.  We continued to cruise north after the next JewFish bridge opening.

Just north and to the east of the JewFish creek entrance we found Thursday Cove to be clear of the construction barges that were there last week.  We had noticed an American Flag on top of the new 65 foot high bridge under construction indicating all of the beams are in place.  Than company had been using Thursday Cove as a staging area for the crane and beams.  This was cleared out on this Sunday afternoon and we had more than enough space to anchor with 100 feet of rode.
