Home Entrance

We moved into our home in December 1982 after living in Pennsylvania for 10 years and California for 1 year. The house was new, having been constructed by Pulte Corporation as a "spec" home. Construction was initiated in June and finished in December just before we closed.

The house consists of three stories and an attached garage.  The walk out basement was initially unfinished and allows entrance from the back yard in addition to a stairway from the kitchen.  The main floor consists of Living, Dining, Kitchen, a large den, a powder room, and a laundry room with an entrance from the garage.  The top floor consists of four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The house is of a "Federal" design with a brick veneer front and hip roof.  The remainder of the house is finished with aluminum siding.  The entrance from the street consisted of an uncovered concrete stoop.  The entrance was a 36" door with glass side lights. The original door was steel with three diagonally spaced windows.  The door frame was painted wood.  With no overhead protection, over the years water penetrated the framing and the wood began to rot.  I recognized the situation in the early 1990's and corrected by painting and caulking several times, but eventually recognized that some protection from rain was needed.

In1999 I designed small roof to cover the front concrete stoop.
